DOT Adopt-A-Highway SOUTH US 69 Clean Up

Saturday, October 19th from 9 – 11 AM:  The Ames High School Key Club will clean up South US Highway 69 this coming Saturday.  Wear old closed-toe shoes and long pants and meet in the Lowe’s parking lot near Burgie’s if you would like to help Randy keep our Key Club members safe.  This is a great opportunity to serve alongside our sponsored club and learn about this year’s membership.

Fifth Thursdays in a month: First Christian Church (611 Clark Avenue, backdoor lower level) in downtown Ames.

Saturday, September 29th (9:00 AM after our meeting): North US Highway 69 Adopt-A-Highway Clean-up (Meet at Sleepy Hollow river access across from Ada Hayden Park in Ames; vests, bags, gloves, and a snack provided!  Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.)

Saturday, October 13th (8 am): Brookside Park Garden Fall Cleanup (rain date – November 3rd at 8 am) Bring appropriate tools!

Saturday, October 20th (8 am – noon): Help Cub Scout Pack 196 plant trees at Kate Mitchell Elementary School.  Bring appropriate tools!

Saturday, October 20th (various sign up times): Assist the Cyclone Country Aktion Club with their food drive at the Lincoln Center Hy-Vee in Ames.

Thursday, November 29th (one week after Thanksgiving, 5:30 – 7:30 pm): Food at First (First Christian Church) – Join Leo, Dan, Dale, Marilyn, Mary Ann, and Marion as we help serve food to community members.

Saturday, December 15th (3 pm – 6 pm):  Bell Ringing at the downtown Fareway.

** (Cub Scout Pack 196 will also be ringing bells and singing Christmas carols at their Salvation Army bell ringing event at the Ames North Walmart on Saturday, December 15th.  T&C Kiwanians are invited to come enjoy the fun.)

Scouts need only participate for a half-hour period but may stay longer if they like. Families and friends are welcome to join!

2019 TEEN MAZE (held at the Boone County Fairgrounds), April 1st – April 5th

Sunday, March 31st, 2019:  Set up for the week of education for approximately 1,100 area 7th-graders.

  • Monday, April 1st:  Day One
  • Tuesday, April 2nd:  Day Two
  • Wednesday, April 3rd:  Day Three
  • Thursday, April 4th:  Day Four
  • Friday, April 5th:  Day Five (ATACK responsible for lunch) and tear-down

Adopt a Highway cleanups

  • (With Ames Town & Country Kiwanians) – May 4th, Meet at Sleepy Hollow across the road from Ada Haydn Park after our regular club meeting to work on NORTH US Highway 69.  Wear older, closed-toe shoes.
  • (With Ames High School Key Club) – Also May 4th, from 9 – 11 am. Meet at Lowe’s Parking Lot near Burgie’s (look for Randy’s old little red Toyota Tacoma).  We will work on SOUTH US Highway 69.  Treats afterword!

Wednesday, May 8th (3:30 pm): Ames Middle School Builders Club party and Jim Almquist Award Presentation, Ames Middle School (6th grade wing).  Key Club representatives will be present for questions.

Friday, May 10th (5:30 pm): Ames High School Key Club Banquet at the Ames High School Cafeteria.  Retiring of 2018-2019 Key Club Officers and Installation of the new 2019-2020 Key Club Officers, presentation of the Ames Town & Country Kiwanis Award for Exemplary Community Volunteer Service, catered meal from Hickory Park, and door prizes.

Monday, May 13th (7:30 pm): Kiwanis Music Awards presentation at Ames High School Pops Concert (orchestra, band, and choir)

Brookside Flower Garden Planting

Saturday, May 18th. We will share breakfast and fellowship starting at 7:00 AM at the Main Entrance Shelter (Maple Shelter) of Brookside Park next to our flower garden.  Join us to help plant flowers graciously donated by Holub’s.  Bring a guest who likes to garden!
